It is an honor to be able to publish the remarks of the winner of the Joseph St. Geme Jr. Award, and this week we are fortunate to share the thoughts of Dr. George Lister (doi: 10.1542/peds.2012-0146) Professor of Pediatrics at University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, who was the 2011 winner of this award. Dr. Lister who has been a true leader in our field in so many areas, presents five changes he would like to see in American Pediatrics, and five lessons learned. In an entertaining and informative style, Dr. Lister makes us all think and reflect on where our field has been and where it needs to go and exemplifies why he is so deserving of this award.
